ACC Providers - Did you know?
As Primary Health Practitioners, Osteopaths are registered as ACC Providers which means that we can be your first port of call for any accidental musculoskeletal injury, saving you an unnecessary trip to your GP. We can also directly refer you (both ACC and non-ACC covered injuries) for x-ray and ultrasound imaging. Soft Tissue Techniques These gentle and safe techniques are applied to the musculoskeletal area which is interrupting normal physiology function and causing pain and/or stiffness. Joint Articulation and Manipulation When a joint is restricted and unable to move through it's normal range of motion, it creates dysfunction, asymmetry and abnormal loading. This causes changes to local and/or distant structures of the body resulting in pain, and an inability to function - you just can't comfortably do what you want to. By identifying and correcting normal range of motion via joint articulation and/or manipulation, normal function can be restored leading to a decrease in pain and subsequent increase in function and daily activities. Postural Advice Daily prolonged postures due to work demands, pain avoidance or personal habit may lead to acute or chronic pain and discomfort. Identification of your postural weaknesses will allow us to work with you to reverse these pain-causing habits via education, osteopathic treatment and prescribed rehabilitative exercises. The aim is to empower you to help yourself. Exercise Routines These will be tailor-made to each individual patient. Options range from extensive individualised gym programs, to swiss ball routines or just specific regional strengthening and stretching exercises. The aim is to improve your ability to do what you want when you want AND to prevent re-occurence. Workplace Ergonomic Assessments An opportunity for patients to have an onsite ergonomic assessment of their workplace to identify potential weak areas which may affect posture due to incorrect or inefficient systems currently in place. These are individually carried out at your workplace. The aim is to make the workplace fit you NOT you fit the workplace. All activities performed for 40 hours per week will have a significant impact on your musculoskeletal body. These forces should be addressed. |
